Figure Drawing 1: Develop the ability to draw with FORCE
Some reflection after learn with Michael Mattesi
1. Tips of drawing lines with FORCE:
a. Air draw first
b. Put pressure down on the page
c. Try several time
d. draw in motion
e. Imagine the pencil as a vehicle, when it speed down, apply more force.

2. To accentuate the movement trend, apply force on lines(usually on the shoulders).

3. Aware of gravity
a. Counterbalance
b. Women and Men’s CENTER OF GRAVITY are different.

c. Try to use COG to measure the position of feet
d. Rhythm = create BALANCE
e. A line should have three aspect: Coming from…; Appex; Going to…

4. Four metaphorical types of force experiences
a. Skating:
– Smooth and fast, think about your paper as the ice, push your force into the paper.
– Slow enough to allow your brain and your hand to come together, and fast enough to feel force.
– As you hit a curve, you should push in and it should lighten up as you come out.
– Light on the straight and thick on the curve (draw physics).
– Fluid and variety.
b. Rollercoaster
– Hit the moment over and over again.
– Rev up and get the darkness of the line to match what you think the physical forceful sensation
is of that part of the body.
c. Skiing
– It’s almost like there’s tension in these curves of force and how much they bend or flex from one
to the other to make the whole path happen.
– Pick up some speed when curve got more space, and slow down when the curve become tight.
d. Driving
– Cars always wants to go straight
– Burn off speed and pick up speed

5. Use 4 Lines to quickly define a figure drawing
a. Torso + 1 leg
b. Leg
c. Arms
d. Neck & Head

6. Leading Edge
a. Past – Present – Future
b. Use force to emphasize the leading egde.
