Job searching Part2: Preparing showreels for industry Tips

- I could edit a 2D animation showreel, and also an After Effects showreel.
- A good showreel contains:
- Different styles
- Character/Emotion/Animation quality… it should shows variety of capability
- stylized animation and general animation.
- putting yourself into the employer position
- PUT ONLY THE BEST SHOT
- Do some research on:
- Identify Audience
- House style of the company
- Company’s showreel(music is also important)
- Font listed on their website
- General Reel – what kind of projects would they like to work on? Ideally find a place suits your style
- Research showreels on Vimeo, Behance… other platforms
- Some list of Studios:

- AARDMAN
- CARTOON SALOON
- THE LINE
- MAP MOUSE
- COBENHAGEN BOMBAY
- Content
- Shot saying about me and my skills
- Each shot should present a different skill
- VARIETY is the key
- AVOID TIME FILLING
- CHOOSE MEMORABLE SHOTS
- PUT YOUR BEST WORK FIRST – GRAB ATTENTION
- Your sills will be judged on your weakest shot
- At least 4 different works
- 20 sec and more (ideally around 20-25 said by Shaun, and 45sec said by lecturer)
- Emotion changes
- Control of characters
- BE ANALYTICAL (what is each shot showing)
- Tips:
- Keep it showrt
- Don’t try to include everything
- Between 30-60sec
- Keep the quality consistent
- Leave them wants to see more.
- Try to contact them and say: do you have time to look at my showreel?
- They may watch it silent
- Try not include shots really rely on sound

- Keep the music to one track
- Collaborate work —> write a little descripton
- Add your name & contact detail
- email address/phone number
- choose a Font

- follow your favourite studios/software/hr/producer
